It all started with one caring individual...
In 1986, Mary Jane Isner started fostering squirrels as a favor to the Orlando Humane Society. Later that year she decided to earn her Wildlife Rehabilitation License and opened her door to all of Florida's native critters. She started with only a few animals, totally naive to the changes that would be in store for her. That first year, she cared for about 100 animals. That number quickly increased to approximately 2,000 animals per calendar year, totaling an estimated 74,000 animals cared for as of 2024. Together with a team of dedicated volunteers, Mary Jane provides a safe haven for injured and orphaned wildlife 365 days per year. The Haven for Injured and Orphaned Wildlife is the only licensed rehabilitation center in Seminole County.
